Jalen Duren could be in line for a massive payday as he enters extension negotiations with the Detroit Pistons.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, there is a belief around the league that Duren is seeking a contract worth close to $40 million annually, which would represent roughly 25% of the NBA salary cap.
Scotto also reported that while Duren’s asking price is high, several NBA executives expect both sides to ultimately reach an agreement in the mid-$30 million per year range, with the expectation that the 22-year-old center remains in Detroit.
Duren has emerged as one of the league’s promising young big men, providing the Pistons with elite rebounding, efficient interior scoring, and rim protection. Duren has a breakout season in 2025-26, averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, making his first All-Star team and garnering All-NBA Third team honors.
As Detroit continues building around its young core, retaining Duren has become one of the franchise’s top offseason priorities.
If negotiations conclude near the projected mid-$30 million annual salary, Duren would join the growing list of young centers earning premium contracts as the NBA salary cap continues to rise.
